Of Macarius

Embracing hard desert sand,
Where his eyes did see great truth;
Of the first end for this land—
Lost by error of our youth.
            Although man did stray, in Faith did he pray.
The Lord he did not eschew
Despite the loss of his love;
His pain to reveal a clue
About grand plans from above.
             Divine kept at bay, in Faith did he pray.
Releasing things of the world,
Begging a new master reign;
One by whom wisdom unfurled,
Sanctifying the mundane.
             Creation to replay: in Faith did he pray.
Even with achievement gained
Showed he great humility;
In homily, he explained
How once more the soul may see.
            For power to stay, in Faith did he pray.
Antony to guide his way
To the harsh life of freedom;
But needing one source each day—
Spirit, alone, to feed him.
            Guide for us to pray: hear what he did say.
